All Dungeons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – temple locations explained
The dungeon masters have spoken.
If there's anything that fans really wanted from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it was more temples and dungeons than its predecessor. While Breath of the Wild was critically acclaimed and adored by even the most picky fans of the franchise, it was a bit lacking in those areas.
It had over 100 shrines, sure, but not a lot of the traditional big-scale dungeons fans have come to expect. So, while we expected more of the former in Tears of the Kingdom, we also hoped for more of the latter – especially when we heard about the existence of The Depths. Is there a more fitting excuse for dungeons than a creepy new underworld?

The development team has detailed whether the sequel has traditional dungeons in it or not, and – as it's been out for a few days – we can now see for ourselves. We'll discuss the situation below. Does Tears of the Kingdom have traditional dungeons and temples, or is it once again a shrine and Divine Beasts affair?
Are there dungeons in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Yes! The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does have dungeons.
The existence of dungeons was confirmed in the latest round of Nintendo’s ‘Ask the Developer’ series. In this new detailed interview, the Tears of the Kingdom developers explain that dungeons are indeed in the new game, and that “they’ve changed from the previous game” this time around – “the dungeons are huge”.
Satoru Takizawa, the art director of the game, explains that the Tears of the Kingdom dungeons “are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel, just like traditional The Legend of Zelda games”.
This is a big departure from Breath of the Wild. In the previous game, there were just four major dungeons – the four Divine Beasts. Each one shared similar designs, so they weren’t much like what you’d expect of a Zelda game.
If you're playing the game and you're wondering where the dungeons are, we don't want to spoil the details for you, but we will tell you to follow the Regional Phenomena mission chain.
This is a main story quest, so you can't miss it, and it'll show you where to look if you want to find a few of those big temples.

How many Dungeons are in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
If you don't mind spoilers, or you're already so far into the game it doesn't matter, we'll share the complete list of dungeons below:
- The Fire Temple
- The Wind Temple
- The Water Temple
- The Lighting Temple
- Hyrule Castle
- The Spirit Temple
While there are only six dungeons in this list, the ending is also pretty dungeon-like, too!
Where are the Dungeon locations in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
So, where are they? The easiest way to find the dungeons/temples in the main segment of the game is to follow the Regional Phenomena mission chain. Beyond that, there are two other dungeons worth seeking out.
Before we begin listing the dungeons/temples, be sure to check out the video from YouTuber goodgamez below. It's an extensive video with a run-through of each one!
We'll share a list of every temple's location below. Again, be wary of potential spoilers!
The Fire Temple
Before you can access the Fire Temple, you'll need to have completed the 'Yunobo of Goron City' quest. This is one of the Regional Phenomena.
At the end of this quest, you'll take a minecart up Death Mountain and fight a boss. To find the entrance to the Fire Temple, you'll need to dive into The Depths.
Although you probably already have the right sort of armour on (after doing the previous quest) we'll flag that you'll need some sort of fire resistance! Common sense in a Fire Temple, but just in case...
The Wind Temple
The Wind Temple is a ship flying in the sky (pretty cool, right?) and you'll have access to it as a part of the 'Tulin of Rito Village' quest. This is the western-most 'Regional Phenomena'.
Cold resistance will come in handy for this one, so get your warm clothes on!
The Water Temple
To get to the Water Temple you need to finish the 'Sidon of the Zora' quest. The quest is based in the Ancient Zora Waterworks, and after it you'll head to the Wellspring Island in the sky.
Make sure you have Splash Fruit for this one. It's the eastern-most 'Regional Phenomena', if you were wondering.
The Lightning Temple
To begin proceedings for the Lightning Temple, you'll need to go to Gerudo Town and finish the 'Riju of Gerudo Town' quest.
You'll be at the entrance right after finishing the boss (it raises out of the desert sands). This is another one of the Regional Phenomena.
Hyrule Castle
If you've been playing the game for any length of time, you might have already spotted Hyrule Castle. It’s flying, just north of the Lookout Landing in Central Hyrule.
You'll first visit this location during the 'Crisis at Hyrule Castle' mission. And once you've done the 'Regional Phenomena', you'll want to come back here to explore its full dungeon.
The Spirit Temple
The Spirit Temple is located in the southeast area in the Depths. You go here as part of a long quest called 'Guidance of Ages Past' – and you trigger this by interacting with the mask at the end of the 'Find the Fifth Sage' quest.
And that's the complete list. Once you've finished all of them, you'll unlock the game's finale (an epic dungeon in itself). Good luck! A lot of these temples are tricky and feature solid bosses, so prepare your inventory and take a few deep breaths...
